On Thursday, December 5, Luminaire Lab hosted an evening with a dual exhibition opening celebrating the work of two prolific designers who push the envelope creating new dialogues in form, material, and function. Coinciding with Miami Design Week 2019, Luminaire presented The Uncollected Collection by Piero Lissoni for Living Divani on the main floor complimented with Noctambule, Konstantin Grcic’s latest series of lighting for Flos on the second level of the showroom.
The Uncollected Collection commemorates the 50th anniversary of Living Divani as well as the 30th anniversary of Piero Lissoni’s role as art director for the brand. In the windows of the showroom along NE 2nd Ave in Miami’s Design District, the exhibition consisted of a selection of limited edition pieces from the Tavolo and Sedia series of the collection. The seemingly impossible Tavolo 09 table spanning 14 feet in length occupied one side of the platform paired with a selection of whimsical chairs from the Sedia series on the opposite end.
On the Lab’s second level, Konstantin Grcic’s series of eye-catching, transparent modules of mouth-blown glass created a dynamic exploration of illumination. Designed by Grcic and his team, the site-specific installation included a selection of interconnected pendants and floor lamps enriched by a glass bowl or cone-shaped head. Mostly invisible during the day, the eye-catching display brought the space to life, illuminating the window display along NE 2nd Ave.
Throughout the evening over 300 guests enjoyed champagne and passed hors d’oeuvres while experiencing the exhibitions and discussing Grcic’s sculptural installation and Lissoni’s almost gravity-defying collection of tables and chairs. Luminaire was happy to celebrate the opening and share an exciting evening with dear friends including Poltrona Frau CEO, Dario Rinero, Flos CEO Jack Schreur, Living Divani Director Carola Bestetti, Elle Decor Japan Brand Director, Ryuko Kida, among others.
Ethereal Simplicity is on show until mid-January 2020 and is available for view Monday – Saturday, 10 am – 6 pm at Luminaire’s Lab location.
