Luminaire celebrated the 50th anniversary of B&B Italia with a private documentary screening that told the personal story and entrepreneurial journey of its founder, Piero Ambrogio Busnelli, at the Coral Gables Art Cinema followed by a reception and presentation of a special B&B Italia 50th anniversary book at Luminaire Coral Gables Tuesday, September 27. Over 200 guests including prominent architects, designers, and beloved clients attended the event. Giorgio Busnelli, CEO of B&B Italia, was present and gave an enlightening introduction. An overall sentiment of admiration and gratitude was eminent.
Founded in 1966 by Piero Ambrogio Busnelli, and now under the the direction of the his son, Giorgio Busnelli, the prestigious brand has been a pioneering force in the design word. It maintains its reputation for attracting the very best of Italian and international talent such as Antonio Citterio, Mario Bellini, Patricia Urquiola, Naoto Fukasawa, and Doshi Levien among others.
The film “B&B Italia. Poetry in the Shape. When Design Meets Industry” moves through 50 years of the brand’s history and showcases the industrial advancements and achievements in innovation and technology through images and interviews. Following a documentary format, the film uses personal anecdotes, images of people, memories and iconic products showing viewers the different layers of the brand. It combines the documentation richness with the narrative pleasure alternating moments of critical reflection and emotion.
The most complex project for the 50th anniversary of B&B Italia is the book “The Long Life of Design in Italy. B&B Italia 50 Years and Beyond.” Edited by one of the most authoritative narrators of design and architecture, Stefano Casciani, the book describes in layman’s terms all of B&B Italia’s most important aspects. It covers history, current affairs, production innovation and technologies. Guests in attendance had the book signed by Giorgio Busnelli.
Luminaire and B&B Italia have a long-standing 30-year relationship sharing an alignment of visions and philosophies strengthened by Luminaire’s Flagship showroom in Coral Gables that includes a 7,000 sq. ft. mono-brand B&B Italia space spread across the first floor.
