Continually evolving, Luminaire increased its showroom space at Superior Street to include yet another floor of curated design space. To commemorate this expansion during NeoCon 1995, Luminaire introduced a new manufacturer to its roster, the Italian company Tecno, allowing NeoCon visitors to interact with some of Tecno’s finest pieces.
According to Tecno Director Marco Fantoni, ‘It is better to spend an extra [dollar] on the machinery than an extra penny on each component produced.’ Tecno has earned a solid reputation for the quality of work they produce as a result. The company has collaborated closely with design notables such as Norman Foster and Associates to create innovative products, some of which graced the Luminaire showroom floor during NeoCon 1995.
Architect Herbert Ohl, who is also known for designing the comfortable, mobile, and stackable ‘Swing’ chair with his wife Jutta, further enlightened Luminaire guests at NeoCon with a lecture titled ‘Design for Living.’ As a part of people’s everyday lives, design has the opportunity to transform one’s experience, and good design can always do so in positive and poetic ways.
