Tangram Wall Mounted Shelving
Made by Henge
Designed by Massimo Castagna
Massimo Castagna conceived Tangram as an exercise in architectural thinking at the domestic scale. Its name borrows from the ancient Chinese puzzle, where a finite set of geometric pieces yields an infinite range of compositions. That logic governs the entire system: modular metal elements are configured, stacked, and layered to produce arrangements that read less as furniture and more as a considered intervention in a wall's geometry.
Henge's production is rooted in the precision metalworking traditions of northern Italy. Each component is finished to exacting tolerances, and the available palette, from burnished bronzes to matte lacquers, allows a composition to be calibrated precisely to the architecture it inhabits. The result occupies the space between object and architecture, between furniture and built surface.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who designed the Henge Tangram shelving system?
Tangram was designed by Massimo Castagna, the creative director of Henge. Castagna's work consistently applies an architectural sensibility to furniture, treating each piece as a spatial intervention rather than a discrete object.
What materials and finishes are available for Tangram?
Tangram is constructed from precision-worked metal and is available in a range of finishes including burnished bronzes and matte lacquers. Because the system is made to order, finish selection can be coordinated closely with a project's architectural palette.
How is the Tangram system configured and installed?
Tangram is a wall-mounted, modular system whose geometric components can be stacked and arranged in a wide variety of compositions. Configuration is typically developed in consultation with a designer or dealer to suit the specific wall dimensions and spatial context of each project.
What does 'made to order' mean for Henge products?
Made-to-order production means each Tangram configuration is manufactured after the order is placed, with lead times that vary by specification. This process ensures precise finish quality and allows for custom configurations not possible with off-the-shelf production.
Is Tangram suitable for contract or residential architecture projects?
Tangram's modular logic and architectural scale make it well suited to both high-end residential and contract environments. Its capacity for large-format wall compositions and its refined finish options have made it a frequent choice among architects and interior designers working on significant projects.
