Stefan Antoni and Greg Truen founded SAOTA as an architecture practice in Cape Town, a city defined by the tension between raw geology and the sea. The Steen takes its name and form from that geography, where weathered boulders emerge from coastal cliffs with a presence both ancient and unhurried.
The design translates that geological weight into object form. Rounded volumes, considered mass, and a silhouette that suggests something found rather than made. It is the kind of work that earns its place in a room through restraint, not assertion.
SAOTA brought an architect's sensibility to the object, treating proportion and material as primary forces. The result speaks to a South African design culture increasingly attentive to its own landscape as a source of form.
