Standing assertively on four long legs, haunting, totemic, and commanding, the Solaris was born of mystery and imagination, a nod to the feted 1972 science fiction film of the same name where dream like memories act as windows to the subconscious, the reserve of magic and creativity from which designer Shiro Kuramata’s own creations are conceived, lingering, poignant, and provocative. The cabinet’s 28 drawers therefore symbolize the retention and protection of memory, manifesting the innermost visions and reveries that occupy our quietest moments for a specifically enchanted object that is unique, delightful, and breathtaking.
