Patrick Norguet conceived the Rainbow Chair for Cappellini in 2000 as an inquiry into the relationship between industrial process and artisanal precision. Bands of methacrylate acrylic resin, each a distinct color and width, are fused together using ultrasound technology, a process that produces a material object as much as it does an optical one.
The result reads differently depending on light and angle. What appears at first as pure color resolves into form: a clean, essential silhouette whose geometry provides the counterpoint to the chromatic intensity within. The mirror-like finish, achieved through a manual polishing process, amplifies this dialogue between surface and depth.
