Eva and Eve Table Lamps
Made by Lumina Italia
Eva and Eve are the result of Foster + Partners bringing their architectural discipline to the domestic object. Each lamp encloses its entire mechanism within a slender glass tube, making the engineering visible without making it loud. A single LED projects light upward onto a reflective cone, casting a soft, indirect glow that reads more as atmosphere than illumination.
Eva, the larger of the two, features a grooved aluminium wheel at the base that rotates to dim the light. The gesture is deliberate and tactile, a physical interaction that resists the abstraction of touch controls. Eve refines the concept further, introducing a thin metal bevel at the top and a touch-dimming base, reducing the form to its quietest possible expression.
- Eva: 18W LED source with rotating dimmer wheel, aluminium base, transparent glass diffuser
- Eve: 4W LED source with touch-dimming base, slimmer profile with metal bevel detail
- Both designed for indirect uplighting, suited to surfaces where reflected light is the point

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Eva and Eve table lamps?
Eva is the larger model, featuring an 18W LED and a grooved rotating wheel that serves as the dimmer. Eve is a more compact interpretation with a 4W LED and a touch-sensitive dimming base, distinguished by a thin metal bevel at the top in place of the wheel.
How does the Eva lamp's dimming mechanism work?
Eva uses a free-moving grooved wheel wrapped around the aluminium base. Rotating the wheel adjusts light intensity, providing an analog, tactile control that contrasts with typical electronic dimmers.
Who designed the Eva and Eve lamps, and what is their design background?
Eva and Eve were designed by Foster + Partners, the London-based studio founded by Norman Foster. Known primarily for landmark architecture and urban planning, the studio brings the same emphasis on structural clarity and material precision to its product and lighting design work.
What kind of light does the Eva lamp produce?
Both Eva and Eve are indirect uplights. The LED projects upward onto a reflective cone housed within the glass tube, producing a diffused, ambient glow rather than direct task illumination.
What materials are used in the Eva and Eve lamps?
The lamps feature an aluminium structure with a transparent glass tube diffuser. The combination keeps the internal components legible while the material quality gives the object its understated presence.
