Dot Pattern Wall Lamp
Made by Cassina
Designed by Charles & Ray Eames
The Dot Pattern Light begins with a story that predates its own existence. In 1947, Charles and Ray Eames submitted a graphic textile design to a competition at MoMA in New York. The pattern was never produced in their lifetime, yet it endured as one of the most recognizable visual signatures of the Eames studio.
Cassina revives that motif in metal, translating the Dot Pattern's cross-shaped compositions of tapered lines and round dots into a wall-mounted lamp. The rhythm of the pattern has drawn different readings over the decades: some interpret its cadence as musical notation, others see the geometry of the Eames molded shell chairs, their tubular steel frames, and the distinctive shock mounts that defined a generation of seating.
The lamp uses a G9 light source, positioned so that light plays across the surface geometry of the shade and brings the graphic into relief. Industrial production methods meet a design rooted in mid-twentieth century experimentation, a combination that Cassina has long made its own.
