Frequently Asked Questions

Who designed the Dé tableware collection for Serax?

The Dé collection was designed by Ann Demeulemeester, the Belgian fashion designer known for her monochromatic palette and strong interplay of light and shadow. The collaboration with Serax marks her translation of that visual language into functional porcelain objects.

Are the Dé plates dishwasher safe?

Given the hand-painted dégradé finish applied in multiple layers, gentle hand-washing is recommended to preserve the integrity of the painted surface over time.

What makes each Dé plate unique?

Each plate is painted by hand in several successive layers, which means the gradation, edge definition, and tonal depth vary from piece to piece. No two plates are precisely alike, making individual selection and combination part of the experience.

How many gradations of the Dé plate are available?

Six variations of black painting are offered, moving from an extremely fine trace at the rim to a surface that is almost entirely coated. A separate selection in red is also available within the collection.

How should the Dé plates be combined at the table?

The collection is designed with intentional pairing in mind. Demeulemeester conceived the pieces so that different gradations placed in proximity to one another, or overlapping, produce shifting tonal relationships. Guests, dishes, and atmosphere can all inform which combinations are chosen.
