Stefan Antoni and Greg Truen

Born 1986 | South Africa

Stefan Antoni founded his architectural practice in Cape Town in 1986, later evolving into SAOTA. Greg Truen studied architecture at the University of Natal, graduating in 1991, and joined Stefan Antoni Architects as a project architect in 1995 before becoming a partner in 1998. Together, they helped shape SAOTA's internationally recognized design language, characterized by strong geometry, generous spatial relationships, and an intimate dialogue between architecture, landscape, light, and climate.

Their collaborative practice extends beyond architecture into furniture and object design. For Indigenus, Antoni and Truen created the Steen collection, drawing inspiration from the large weathered boulders found along Cape Town's coastline. The low, stone-like forms translate SAOTA's architectural vocabulary into sculptural planters, balancing a substantial physical presence with softened geometry and refined simplicity. Their work demonstrates how architectural thinking can inform objects that engage naturally with both interior and exterior environments.

We're interested in how space works, on a micro level in the building to a macro level extending to the horizon.
