Raf Simons

Born 1968 | Belgium

Raf Simons is a Belgian designer whose work moves between industrial design, fashion, interiors, and cultural direction with unusual clarity and influence. Born in 1968 in Neerpelt, Belgium, he graduated in industrial design in 1991 and initially worked as a furniture designer for galleries and private interiors. Before launching his own label, he also interned at Walter Van Beirendonck's design studio, where he worked on presentation and showroom design.

In 1995, Simons introduced his namesake label and quickly became one of the defining creative voices of his generation. While his broader international recognition came through fashion, his background in industrial design has remained central to his sensibility, giving his work a disciplined structure and a strong relationship to space, objecthood, and material culture. His collaborations beyond fashion, including his long-running partnership with Kvadrat, reveal a refined approach to color, texture, and interiors that makes his work especially relevant within a design-led context such as Luminaire. Across disciplines, Simons is admired for balancing severity and emotion, precision and rebellion, creating a body of work that feels both cerebral and deeply contemporary.

I dont want to show clothes, I want to show my attitude, my past, present and future. I use memories and future visions and try to place them in todays world.
