Pierre Jeanneret

Nato nel 1896 | Switzerland

Pierre Jeanneret was born in Geneva in 1896 and trained in architecture at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Geneva. He worked closely with his cousin Le Corbusier for roughly two decades, contributing to a body of modern architecture that helped define the era. Jeanneret is often described as the steadier counterbalance in the partnership: precise, methodical, and deeply attentive to how buildings and objects are actually used.

From the early 1950s onward, he became central to the creation of Chandigarh, staying for years to guide the citys development and advise local institutions. Alongside architecture, he designed furniture for public buildings and residences, favoring straightforward construction, local materials, and forms that feel both modern and human. These Chandigarh pieces, once purely functional, later became global design references for their honest proportions and enduring presence.
