Nano UX
Made by Kettal
The Nano UX is a cantilever parasol of considered proportion, designed by Dirk Wynants for Kettal. Two compact fan canopies extend shade precisely where it is needed, making the piece well suited to smaller terraces and intimate outdoor settings where a conventional parasol would overwhelm the space.
The canopy is constructed from Colorum fabric, a high-performance textile chosen for its resistance to staining and its ability to hold color under prolonged sun exposure. A lateral tilt mechanism allows the canopy to follow the arc of the sun, maintaining consistent shade without repositioning the base.
The frame is offered in two distinct expressions:
- Full Black, pairing a black frame with a Colorum Black canopy
- Architecture, combining a Papyrus White lacquered frame with a Colorum Marble canopy
Wynants, the Belgian designer behind the celebrated Extrem collection, brings the same formal discipline here: a piece that earns its place outdoors through restraint, not spectacle.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Colorum fabric and how does it perform outdoors?
Colorum is a solution-dyed acrylic fabric engineered for outdoor use. The dyeing process saturates color throughout the fiber rather than coating the surface, giving it strong resistance to fading, staining, and moisture over extended exposure.
Can the Nano UX canopy be tilted to block low-angle sun?
Yes. The Nano UX includes a lateral tilt mechanism that allows the canopy to angle sideways, enabling precise shade adjustment as the sun moves across the sky without relocating the umbrella base.
Who is Dirk Wynants and what is his design background?
Dirk Wynants is a Belgian designer known for founding Extremis, a furniture brand that redefined outdoor social furniture. He later established an independent practice and has collaborated with Kettal to bring the same rigorous, function-driven approach to the parasol category.
Is the Nano UX suitable for a small balcony or terrace?
The Nano UX was developed specifically for compact outdoor spaces. Its twin fan canopies provide targeted coverage, and its streamlined frame profile avoids the visual bulk associated with larger freestanding parasols.
What finish options are available for the Nano UX frame?
The Nano UX is offered in two configurations: Full Black with a black frame paired with a black Colorum canopy, and Architecture with a Papyrus White lacquered frame paired with a Colorum Marble canopy.
