Linea Vases
Made by IWATA
The Linea Vases emerge from a discipline that values what most designers overlook: the space between intention and finish. Conceived by Iwata Mokkou Studio, each piece begins with a classical vase silhouette and submits it to a rigorous process of handcraft, where the grain of the wood becomes as expressive as the form itself.
Available in black ash and walnut, the Linea series offers three distinct shapes and scales. The two materials read very differently in a room. Black ash carries a graphic weight, its tight, dark grain absorbing light. Walnut is warmer, the figure of the wood shifting with angle and season.
- Solid black ash or solid walnut construction
- Three shapes and sizes within the series
- Delicate turned profiles with refined edge detailing
- Surface finish that preserves and reveals natural wood texture
Iwata Mokkou Studio works from a conviction that minimal beauty is not achieved by subtraction alone, but by the discipline to pursue each detail, in the line, the edge, the surface, with equal rigor. The Linea Vases are objects for living with slowly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the Iwata Linea Vases functional or purely decorative?
The Linea Vases are crafted from solid wood, making them decorative objects rather than vessels for water or fresh flowers. They are designed to be appreciated for their form and materiality, much like sculpture.
What is the difference between the black ash and walnut versions?
Black ash has a tighter, darker grain that reads with more graphic contrast, while walnut offers a warmer, richer tone with a broader, more varied figure. The choice between them is largely one of atmosphere and the palette of the surrounding space.
Who is Iwata Mokkou Studio?
Iwata Mokkou Studio is a Japanese design and craft atelier that pursues essential, minimal beauty through detailed woodworking. Their work emphasizes the relationship between precise form and the natural character of wood, expressed through refined edges, delicate lines, and surfaces that honor the material.
How should wood vases like the Linea series be maintained?
Solid wood objects benefit from stable humidity and should be kept away from prolonged direct sunlight, which can shift the color of the finish over time. Occasional application of a food-safe wood oil will preserve the surface and keep the grain expressive.
Do the three Linea Vase shapes work together as a group?
Yes. The three shapes are designed with a shared formal language, so they read as a coherent family when grouped. Varying the heights and profiles creates a considered composition rather than simple repetition.
