Meaning ‘bowl’ in Japanese, Naoto Fukasawa’s Wan lamp may be placed at an arbitrary angle. Like a bowl, the light sits on the floor or a shelf and emits a vague ring of light like a snow lantern, indirectly illuminating the wall or ceiling. With sand-like particles of iron inside the lamp’s shell, the lighting fixture sits without the need for any balancing support.

    • The Wan floor lamp can be placed at an arbitrary angle by shifting its weight, which consists of sand-like iron particles that are enveloped within the Wan shell
    • The contour of light at the thick rim of the Wan emits a vague light ring in soft gradation like a snow lantern
