A clever design that is delightful in its simplicity. Designed by Masayuki Kurokawa, the Gom Rubber Coasters feature a hexagonal pattern of circles. Made of rubber, a material the Japanese designer is particularly well known for, each set of coasters feature one with raised circles and one with indented circles. The result is a set of coasters that fits together to conserve space and make sure one doesn’t go missing. Beyond its clever nesting ability, the design also keeps condensation from glassware from penetrating the surface of the table.
And, since it is made of rubber, the coaster is nonslip, keeping glassware secured. Innovative in its design and material choice, the Gom Rubber Coasters are indicative of the designer’s innovative work from the 1970’s onward. One of the first people to imagine rubber as a viable material for designed objects, Kurokawa was one of the first people who merged rubber and stainless steel together in his designs. The Gom Rubber Coasters bring a part of the designer’s legacy into the home while remaining a clever and functional accessory.
