Driven by his passion for sustainability, Domingos Totora draws inspiration from his surroundings in Brazil to create an imaginative collection of objects made of natural fibers and pigments. In his CMV Centerpiece, the circular dish distinguished by its repetition of parallel lines which create the bowl's form. Here, recycled cardboard is compressed and shaped into an intriguing form, elevating the substance from what was once rubbish into an attractive and sustainable material. The resulting centerpiece is imbued with a beauty that is inseparable from its function, granting an artistic quality to common everyday objects.
Modern and timeless, each piece is handcrafted by a cooperative of Brazilian artisans known as Gente de Fibra, which Totora founded in 1998. The organization brings the designer's visions to life while promoting a thriving economy that celebrates the craftsmanship and skills of local artisans. The CMV Centerpiece is not just a representation of good design for the tabletop but is a socially-conscious object as well.
