After 10 years of working in Copenhagen, Milan, Paris and London, Todd Bracher has returned to his home in New York City as founder, designer and strategist at the progressive design firm Todd Bracher Studio LLC.  At Luminaire we have enjoyed getting to know Bracher and his thoughts on design over the years, becoming good friends and enthusiastically sharing his work with our clients, our vendors and the public.

We recently had the opportunity to revisit the last 10 years of his career during our trip to Sao Paulo for BoomSPdesign, August 22 – 26. The exhibition “Todd Bracher – The Essence of Things” showcased both Bracher's reductionist style and his passion for the process at the Museu Casa da Brasileira, where the neo-classical architecture provided a stark yet provocative contrast to his minimal, seemless work.

According to Bracher, the truth and honesty of an object is best revealed only in its most elemental form. To most effectively communicate his philosophy, the exhibition paired furniture, lighting, kitchen appliances and design objects with photographs and videos that told the story behind these designs. Some of the pieces on view included the laser-cut Alodi stool, produced with a metal tube and steel plate, and the Tod side table, a bold and unique graphic shape accentuated by a concave form, both available in the Luminaire showrooms.

Bracher was recently appointed Creative Director of the Scandinavian luxury brand Georg Jensen. He has also been pinned as ‘America’s next great Designer' and received nominations for International Designer of the year in 2008 and 2009. In addition, he has worked independently, heading Tom Dixon's design studio and serving as acting Professor of Design at l’ESAD in Reims, France.

We are pleased to share with you a slideshow of our experience of Bracher's recent exhibit in Sao Paulo and encourage you to learn more about his work by visiting our collection of his work both in our showrooms and online.
