A series of modules, proportionally based on the golden rule, may be assembled into functional case goods in a variety of ways. Incorporating a considered approach to geometry with the integration of sustainability through the use of environmentally sound materials and production methods, Spanish designer Joan Lao's work highlights the harmonies found in nature. Lao incorporated the Japanese idea of Wabi-sabi, where beauty is found in the naturally occurring variations in materials and surface textures, into the series of case goods. Various finishes including veneers applied with a special scratching technique, organic pigments, stone, steel, oak and leather appear throughout the collection. Additionally, Lao makes use of a specialized, resistant lacquer that maintains natural surfaces, but provides exceptional durability.
